Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Position – Statistical Hydro-Climatology

The Water & Environmental Engineering Program (WEE) at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology invites applications for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the field of Statistics. The successful applicant will conduct research as part of joint research project between Masdar Institute (MI) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The work will be carried out in the Earth Observation and Hydro-climatology lab under the supervision of Prof. Taha BMJ Ouarda.

The project aims to study large amounts of time-series data of various hydro-climatic variables to be able to identify trends/patterns in time series data and relations between the variables. The aim is to develop efficient non-linear multivariate statistical models for global and regional assessment, and forecasting different hydro-climatic variables.

Requirements:

PhD in statistics or applied statistics but other disciplines that include a rigorous training in statistics will be considered. Practical experience in statistical modeling and/or data mining would be an asset. Experience with using Bayesian methods is desired. The candidate is expected to have excellent communication skills and a good knowledge of the English language. Proficiency in programming competency with software such as Matlab and/or R is a must. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship as reflected in peer-reviewed publications.

Package:

The compensation package for this position is very competitive with annual tax-exempt net salary ranging between US$ 70k and US$ 85k. Additional benefits include: annual two-way airfare to home country, one-time moving allowance, free comprehensive international medical coverage and other components.
